My favorite part about my role as the Operational Leader of the SW Weitz office is the people. Internally, I feel honored to come to work every day with such a great group of individuals. We challenge ourselves with continuous improvement to ensure we are providing the best level of service to all of our trade partners, while honoring our commitment to honesty, integrity and respect. Externally, the network I have built through my relationships within the ABA is unparalleled. I look forward to continuing to grow and build with and among the best teams the construction industry has to offer.
I moved to the Valley twelve years ago and have been an ABA member ever since. I was attracted to the Arizona Builders Alliance after seeing that the organization was built with and around industry peers. Business development is more than relationships with clients and owners, it also requires an understanding of your peers and your network, whether it be from vendors, subcontractors, or other General Contractors. The ABA provides a great forum to learn and collaborate with those in the same industry.
There are many valuable benefits to membership with the ABA. Membership has provided me with the opportunity to surround myself with like-minded industry professionals. The organization has been instrumental in improving the construction industry through education and advocacy. The ABA offers many continuous improvement opportunities to all of its member’s employees through Management Education. The programs, workshops, and classes provide great opportunities for members to improve their leadership skills and elevate their careers. Another benefit of the ABA is Legislation. An outreach program has been created to educate key legislators about issues affecting the construction industry. The organization strives to pass two or three beneficial pieces of legislation every year. Last but not least, the ABA offers Advice/Referral on legal issues affecting the industry such as government regulations, construction lien law, and wage rates and prevailing wage laws.
Among my professional achievements are the following:
- – I am the first female General Manager in The Weitz Company’s 165 year history.
- – 2018 ENR Southwest Top Professional under 40
- – 2018 National Top 20 under 40
- – 2018 CFMA Executive of the Year – Emerging Professional
- – 2018 AZRE Most Influential Women in Arizona
Within the ABA, I helped establish Young Builders Council, as well as the LDF Alumni Group. I was an LDF graduate in 2014, have taught Project Manager Development Program (PMDP) courses, and currently serve as a judge for the LDF mock and final presentations.
My husband John and I reside in Scottsdale with our two German Shepard mixes, Coach and Ditka (if you can’t tell I’m originally from Chicago!). In my spare time, I enjoy traveling to exotic and adventurous locations or a quick weekend getaway to our cabin in northern Arizona. In 2016, I committed to a goal of running 45 half marathons before I turn 45; I completed 35 in November and am on track to complete the goal in 2020.
The philosophy I try to live and work by is, “Don’t forget to have fun!”
