COMMITTEES

Established in 2007 to honor Bill Lloyd Sr., this committee supports scholarships for University of Arizona engineering students. Meeting monthly prior to the Annual Auction, members help interview candidates and select recipients, continuing a legacy of investing in future construction leaders.

This committee awards scholarships to University of Arizona students in the College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture. Meeting as needed prior to the Awards Dinner, members review student portfolios and recognize those who demonstrate superior skill and promise.

ABA’s Community Service Committee brings members together to give back across Arizona. Through volunteer projects, donation drives, and partnerships with local nonprofits, we use our industry’s collective strength to make a real difference for children, families, and communities in need.

Meeting monthly during the legislative session and bi-monthly otherwise, the Governmental Affairs Committee drives ABA’s advocacy work. Members engage directly with elected leaders, government officials, monitor and influence legislation, and help introduce bills that protect and strengthen the industry. By serving as subject-matter experts and trusted voices at the Capitol, the committee ensures that contractors have meaningful influence in shaping Arizona’s construction environment.

Restricted to ABA’s insurance and bonding firms, this council provides expertise that strengthens member education and resources. It meets once a year to shape ABA programs, brainstorm webinar topics, contribute articles for members, and provide guidance for initiatives such as the Project Manager Development Program. Member firms also commit to sharing insights through presentations, ensuring practical knowledge is passed on to the wider association.

The Legal Advisory Council is made up of ABA member law firms and meets annually each August. The group prepares amicus briefs, develops ABA’s legal programming, and creates roundtables and seminars that help members navigate emerging legal issues in construction. Participating firms also share expertise through webinars and presentations, keeping members informed and equipped to respond to complex legal challenges.

Focused on strengthening ABA’s membership, this committee works to retain current members, recruit new ones, and keep engagement high. Meeting every other month, the group also supports mentorship efforts and helps ensure ABA represents the best companies in Arizona’s construction industry.

A joint effort with AGC of Arizona, the Safety Committee provides leadership on safety practices across the industry. Meeting monthly throughout the year at rotating venues including Sundt, AGC, and ABA offices, members deliver presentations on topics like fall protection, silica regulations, heat stress, and trench safety. The committee also organizes the Annual Safety Vendor Fair and participates in national campaigns such as Safety Week, ensuring ABA members remain leaders in workplace safety.

The Southern Arizona Young Builders Committee (YBC) in Southern Arizona engages members under 40 through professional development, networking, and community outreach. Members connect at mixers, jobsite tours, and student outreach events while gaining leadership opportunities and building relationships with peers and industry leaders. Membership is free and open to employees of ABA member companies in good standing.

The Tucson Advisory Board meets monthly to address local construction issues, review upcoming programs, and provide feedback to the statewide Board of Directors. This group ensures that Southern Arizona priorities are represented at the highest level of the association.

Meeting as needed, the Volunteer Day Committee organizes ABA’s major service project in Southern Arizona. Members review nonprofit applications, tour facilities, and coordinate volunteer efforts, ensuring impactful improvements for organizations serving children, families, veterans, and those in need.

The Workforce Outreach Committee meets twice monthly to coordinate efforts that expand the construction workforce. Members connect ABA with schools, career fairs, and community events to spark interest in construction careers and highlight opportunities for jobseekers. By aligning outreach with member hiring needs, the committee plays a key role in building the next generation of Arizona builders.
