Introduction to Construction Documents with Tom Kittle

November 13 @ 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Gain practical experience working with real construction drawings while learning how to spot critical details and avoid costly oversights.

Through hands-on exercises and real-world examples, this engaging class will help you sharpen your plan-reading skills and build greater confidence in the field.

Whether you’re new to the construction industry or looking to strengthen your understanding of project documents, Introduction to Construction Documents with Tom Kittle will help you build the knowledge and confidence to navigate construction drawings more effectively.

If your role involves construction documents, plans, specifications, estimating, or project coordination, understanding the language of construction is essential. During this hands-on course, participants will explore document types, symbols and abbreviations, scales, specifications, estimating considerations, and Requests for Information (RFIs). Attendees will work directly with a set of commercial construction drawings, learning how to identify important information, recognize critical details, and better understand how the various pieces of a construction document package work together.

Led by experienced instructor Tom Kittle, the course goes beyond simply reviewing terminology. Participants will get practical experience working with real construction drawings and examine a real-world example of a detail that nearly went wrong, helping connect what is shown on the plans to what can happen in the field. Each student will also receive a reference packet and a set of commercial construction drawings to use throughout the course.
